    Hi MODx-Community,

I love MODx smiley One of the numerous great features is FC.

But how come we have to duplicate sets for both actions, if we want to do the same at both?
It would be so nice, if I could choose the action "resource/create & resource/update" - so I can just maintain one set for a specific template.

Or is this some decision by design I don't understand?

    I appreciate every input!

    With best regards,
Sebastian [ed. note: last edited this post 13 years, 2 months ago.]

It is quite possible that you would want to have fields that are necessary for creating a new resource (such as template or alias) that you don't want your editors to be meddling with. So you would need to be able to see and edit these fields for a new resource, but not for updating an existing resource.

I think the more common case is we'll want to have both have the same customization.

I too would also really like a third action available for both create/update as the present setup causes a large amount of unnecessary bloat in FC. I feel this is more a design problem really. Why have things broken out by actions for the same template, anyways? I think all three actions could be available through one view for each template fairly easily, if not even on one grid view. Why not just break create/update off into their own tabs where "Regions" and "Template Variables" is? Then give an option for each to effect both update/create (Sort of like my billing address is the same as my shipping address type functionality). That way all three options are available for any customizations we make on any template, though not sure how that impacts load...

I agree, an extra field called something like "operateOn" with a dropdown offering the options (Create, Update, Both) would be really handy and would make FC a lot less confusing.

Could you submit that as a feature request at http://bugs.modx.com?

I think it might be addressed in Revo 2.3. I saw a change hinted at in the roadmap and asked about it in the forums: https://forums.modx.com/thread/86469/curious-about-an-item-in-roadmap, along with my own suggestion there, which I might make as part of a feature request as well.
