As we all know, time is something we all wish we had more of and in today's economy its essential to deliver quickly. I would love to see MODx offer pre-configured installations with the most used addon's and best practices nicely integrated. We all go to rtfm.modx.com to find default templates etc to quickly get a project up and running. I know the new snapshot features on the MODx cloud seems to be a step in the good direction but there does not seem to be a working Market place as per time of writing. When i picture this in my mind, I imagine a download page, select the plugins/addon's you want and voila the magical download button appears smiley. I know that every project is different, and that MODx offers way to many options to have every possibility covered, but a couple of defaults would be nice to start with. Anyway's, just wanted to put this idea out there. Let me know what y'all think and perhaps we can get some bootstrapped Modx download page roll down the mountain and create a giant snowball!

Let me know what you think.
    Regards,
    Thijs

Personally, I envision at some point the setup will offer a list of popular extras that you can install. Sort of like what Evolution did, but it would download the requested extras from the package provider on demand and install them.

Another potential option is public/premium snapshots in the MODX marketplace. Whether or not that would be limited to just cloud sites I'm not sure just left to speculate.

I really think that the snapshots are a good idea, but would not like for that to be an exclusive for MODx cloud users. Would not mind paying for it though, if i know that I was getting a premium installation of MOdx with pre-configured addon's and a fully working back and front-end.

You can make your own package and install that with any new site you create along with any templates, TVs, chunks and snippets etc. using MyComponent or Packman it might not be what you want but if you already know what extras you need to install it will speed up your dev time.

            Good Luck.

You can also use Vapor to package up a site. Just put the site package Vapor creates into a newly installed site's core/packages directory and install it with Package Manager.
