    Hi Guys,

I’ve just got round to upgrading my ModX to 0.9.6.1 from 0.9.6 and I’m not very happy...

The performance loading time has gone from around 0.2 seconds to over 10-30 seconds for each page to load.

Any ideas why? The upgrade went down really easily - just when I looked at my pages again they were amazingly slow.

    Any input would be great!!

    Mat-d

I’m really no expert but you have this line in your ’common.css style’ sheet:

      @import "reset-min.css";

      Is that what you intended?

Jeez, that is slow. It is taking way over 30 seconds for me, the home page came in great but all the other pages are slooowwww!!!

I notice you don’t use the standard <base> tag, but don’t see why this would cause any problems with load time though.

What snippets are you using on the site? Any custom snippets? Is the database optimized? These are just some thoughts that come up.

          Mat-d,
My gut feeling is that your upgrade and your site becoming horrendously slow is a coincidence.
I just called up your site and it took over a minute for any data at all to start coming down from the server. I can’t see how MODx could possibly be playing a part in that kind of response lag.
It feels like an overloaded server or misconfigured or something.
Did anything else change around the time you upgraded (eg your database connection, directory permissions etc)?

Without knowing more about what’s running behind the scenes or your server config, it’s going to be very hard to say. Please see the help us help you link in my signature.

Cheers for the responses guys, I’m always amazed how keen to help everyone is on ModX forums.

              Thanks in advance...

              As for the problem....

Nothing changed from my end. Well I was messing around with Drupal on another server, might have clicked a few buttons on with the two windows open but hopefully I didn’t do something stupid... would that have made a difference? I’m not a complete PHP/SQL freak.... yet! (and hopefully not a complete muppet either)

But just to be sure... what happens if you remove the .htaccess file? Maybe there’s a wrong mod_rewrite command that sends Apache into an endless loop or something...
just tried it without .htaccess... still the same thing so it’s not that.

Is there someway I can ’flush’ out my DB?

...any other suggestions or instructions (please!!) to help me deal with this mess.

              Many Thanks,

              Mat-d

EDIT: RThrash - I’ll get back to you with more info when I’m away from the workplace... some people get a little twitchy about forums - cheers for your comment tho. I understand it’s probably an ’internal’ problem not a ModX one.

Some plugins can fill up the event log table really quickly, making your site slow. Others disable caching completely (like Template Switcher) and should be deleted unless absolutely needed.

You might check in CPanel (or the equivalent) at your host. Usually on the left you can see how much of your disk space you’re using. If you click on "disk space" on the right (at some hosts) you can see if you have any giant files.

Things get get really slow when a disk is nearly full.

                    Hi Guys,

Nothing seems to be working at the moment - still got sluggish performance and I can;t seem to work out why.

Here’s a little more info in case anyone has any suggestions:

PHP version 4.4.2, Perl Version 5.6.1

                      phpMyAdmin 2.8.2
                      Linux based:
                      MySQL - 4.1.20-standard
                      MySQL client version: 3.23.49
                      No tables more than 1MB

                      MODx version 0.9.6.1

Snippets - those running on pages taking ages to load... ListIndexer, Wayfinder, Ditto.
Plugins - No extras, just standard set - not made changes.

                      OS: XP/Media Center
Browser: ie7, ie6, firefox - all the same problems
                    --
Removed files to see if disk space in an issue.
                    Optimised all tables
-Some pages - e.g. http://osnow.co.uk/index.php?id=32 are perfectly fine.
                    others are very very slow.

To be honest I’ve got no idea what I’m doing in PHPmyAdmin and don’t know anything (much) about tables and DB’s so any tips would be an amazing help.

Anything would be appreciated. If not, I’m going to scrap it and start a fresh install if that would help??!

                    Many Thanks,

                    Mat-d

Do the slow pages change from time to time?

What’s in the template and content on the slow pages?
