So I am in need of some serious help, I had a company managing the back end of my website, they were going out of business and provided me with "some" passwords. I have now tried to login into my CMS and none of the information they gave me works. I have gone back to the company that was managing my site and they have now disappeared and I have no other way of contact with them. I need to update my website as it is the main source of marketing for my business. Does any know how I can reset the login and password information for my CMS. I have tried to use the email prompt to reset the password but because my "account" is attached to the email that the company set up my CMS, I can't reset my password.

If any one can help me sort this out I will be eternally grateful.

    Thank you in advance

Do you have access to the FTP? Most importantly access to the database?

        Hi Ben

Thanks for you response. No I can't access anything all I have is the URL, Login Name and the password. The information that they gave I have tried and does not work.

Is there any way I can get access.

        Thanks

I don't want to be offensive, but it does cross my mind that this would be an excellent example of social engineering to get access to someone's site. Not being able to reset the password via email is unusual. I'm sorry to be so suspicious, but really, how can we be sure that the situation is as has been represented?

Do you own the registration to your domain name? Did you purchase hosting for your site? With what hosting company?

              Hi sottwell
No offense taken and I do understand where you are coming from. I do own the registration from my domain, I did not purchase from a hosting site. My hosting site is Ethical Host.

              Hi Paul
Yes I do have access to the control panel for my site.

Everyone please bear with me I am not very familiar with the how the back end of a website functions and this was the main reason that I outsourced it out to a third party. But after charging me a monthly retainer and not really managing my site I had to terminate my relationship with them. I am now on my own and need to figure out very quickly how to manage the content that I create for my site.

All of your questions and help so far has been great and I greatly appreciate it. Hopefully I can get this resolved and can get my content posted for my website.

              Thanks

What I would do first is visit each page in the front end of the site in a browser. On each page, type Ctrl-S and save the page to a separate disk file on your local machine. That way, if everything else fails, you can create a new account and put them up as static pages, or base a new site on the HTML from the pages.

If you have cPanel access, you should be able to regain control of the site.

In cPanel, in the File Manager utility, look at the MODX root directory (the one containing the assets and manager directories). Report back on whether there is a core directory there or a config.core.php file. That will help determine which version of MODX you're using.

Once we know the version, we can PM you further instructions rather than providing public advice on how to break into a MODX site.

Just a thought, before going to all that trouble, did you try the MODX username and password you were given on the Login page you get to by putting http://yoursite.com/manager in the browser's address bar?

It's Evo, Bob. I looked at the Manager login page, and I think that's Evo's form.
