I just want to drop in the idea of developing a version of MODX in Dart, Google's new web language.

For many reasons, Dart looks as the future of the web, and I think the next best modern CMS will be developed in Dart, and it would be great if MODX took that place. So it would be great to start working on achieving that right now that it's early, before someone else does, and so that it can be right on time when everyone starts adopting Dart as their preferred language, and because of all the great things that Dart makes, and will make possible, making a Dart CMS a great option for users and website development. Very possibly, developing a great CMS in Dart would be far more easier than it is or has been with today's tools, like PHP, JavaScript, CSS, jQuery, etc. And with all your knowledge and experience developing MODX, surely you could implement all its great features in a Dart version. I think it's just wise and a great bet to start working on such a project.

Dart is a replacement for JavaScript, PHP, and other web languages and frameworks like Python or Ruby on Rails, built for modern web apps. It delivers speed, high performance, simplicity, efficiency, higher productivity, and it adopts new and future APIs and standards. It compiles to JavaScript, so apps can run in all browsers today, but there's a big chance it will be adopted by other browsers besides Chrome. And it's easy to learn, if you know JS, you can easily pick up Dart. Google is working heavily on building the future of the web, and Dart is a big part of it, so I think it's a no-brainer to get on that wagon.

For those of you not familiar with Dart, take a moment to learn about it, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed: www.dartlang.org

They had a great presence in this year's Google I/O:

What do you think? [ed. note: davidvm last edited this post 13 years, 3 months ago.]

Personally, I think Dart is of questionable value at this point, though it's an interesting concept.

There's a good chance that it will only exist in Chrome, which will make it fairly useless. I don't see the other browser makers building in support for Dart on top of their support for existing JS processing since it will help a competitor and further bloat their browsers. If it's not supported in other browsers, Google will likely deep six the Dart project as they've done with several other of their experimental projects (e.g., http://www.google.com/reader/about/).
