Hi folks,
I've searched the boards and not found much recent discussion on this. Some info I have found suggests it is available functionality; other posts suggest it's still wishlist stuff that's not yet perfected.
So...
1) What capabilities currently exist to allow users with limited editing permissions to click on a published page and make changes?
2) Does Modx include this as built-in functionality?
3) Or are there one or more extras that are commonly used for this? I see SiteEditor and Aloha as possibilities, but can't find much discussion/examples about them (as a non-techie, I generally have problems deciphering what each extra is actually designed to do).
Thanks for any advice on this.

Which version of MODx? For Evo,
QuickManager is an excellent solution.
For Revo, the
QuickBar is a sort of solution; it provides a way to go directly from a page on the front-end to its resource editing page in the Manager, or to create a child resource. With limited permissions and Form Customization you can do quite a bit in the way of customizing the editing pages. But it doesn't have the clever way of putting "Edit" buttons in getResources list items the way QE+ does for Evo.

There isn't much in the way of front-end editing. There is
NewsPublisher for Revo, but that's for web users, not manager users. Well, in Revo the distinction can get blurred, so maybe it'll do what you want, with the right permissions and context permissions for your users.
Users have to log in to the front end to use NewsPublisher, but it doesn't care what kind of users they are as long as their User Group has the appropriate permissions. It comes with its own policy.
It *will* put an Edit button on any editable page once the user is logged in.

Siteeditor is a really great idea. When I tested it though, I had a problem editing the content of a page. In my layout I have the longtitle in an h1 tag above my content. I found that I could edit the longtitle fine, but it would not allow me to edit the content block underneath it. I would suggest that they show the edit symbol as default to highlight all editable elements.
