Articles offset doesn't work when set from General settings

Hey folks,

I'm trying the Articles add-on for the first time and I have been having some trouble getting an offset for my articles to work. I've set up my articles to display and they show just fine, however I'd like to offset them by one, i.e., I'd like to exclude the first article from being shown. The trouble is, when I add &offset=`1` under Advanced Settings -> General -> Other Listing Parameters, nothing happens.

I've tried adding a limit, for example &limit=`5`, but this hasn't helped either. The limit gets applied but the offset doesn't.

If anyone can help with this I would be eternally grateful.
