    Hi,

I’m looking for a way that will enable me to upload (ftp) files like pdf’s etc from within the Manager to display for download.
I’ve searched the forums and can’t find anything that’s of any help.
I read in one post the it’s something to do with Resources/manage files...but at the bottom of this page it displays "Directory writable? No."
I’ve installed the fckEditor because i thought that might have an upload function...but i don’t think it does.
I’ve created directories of ’images’, ’media’ and ’files’ in assets/templates/myTemplate/...as also suggested in another post.
There must be somewhere that i need to enable this upload facility?

    Thanks for any help.

    J

Using the default TinyMCE RTE, just select some text, click the Link button, then click the Browse button at the end of the "Link URL" field in the popup that displays. In the next pop-up (FCKeditor Resources Browser), use the Browse field at the bottom to find the PDF file on your machine, then click the Upload button in the bottom left hand corner. Simple really.

        Hi,

Thanks for the info on how to do it with Tinymce...but i don’t have a browse button in the Link window!!!
I have the Tinymce editor set to advanced....i wonder if this is correct?

For anyone looking how to link to files such as pdf’s with fckEditor....

It’s a simple case of clicking on the ’Insert/edit link’ option on the editor, then clicking the browse button, then upload your file and then chose the file and the path to the file should appear in the URL field.
I had to change the path to the assets/files directory in the Manager in Tools/Configuration/Interfaces & Features/Resource URL...by adding the full path of www.mywebsite.com/modx/assets...and then it all worked.

        Cheers

          Hi ganeshXL,

This is where i read that it could be done but i can’t find exactly what i need to do.
Is it new file permissions i need to alter?
I set these to 777 on the server (assets/files etc)...but on the Manage Files page at the bottom it reads "Directory writable? No."

          How do i enable this?

          Thanks for your help.

aah...when someone says it’s not normal, it usually means it’s the users fault and indeed i had not clicked through to the ’assets/files’ directory where the page read the it was writable:-)
Ok, so i don’t know if you can help me further on this or if it’s better to start another thread...but...
            - any ideas why i don’t have the browse button in Tinymce? i have it in fckEditor so i can always use that to add links to files...not sure what the difference is actaully.
            - Do you know if the manage files page view can be limited so that it only displays the directories within the assets folder? it’s just that it could look quite daunting to a non web savvy admin user.

            Thanks for your help.
