I appear to have resolved this issue after coming back to it. I think my problem was this; i'd only just set up all my documents which all shared one template. The documents / pages themselves didn't have any content at first and now i have began to add content into the pages as i've set up the 'bigger picture' (creating template variables, installing needed add-ons etc before hand), the form now returns search results. It appears to work well and i've been able to style this quite easily too.
I am unsure about another aspect which i am beginning to notice, such as where it carries out it's search. For example, i understand that it searches all document pages, but within one document page in particular i have quite a large table of information. I have put this large table into a Chunk, and then called the Chunk within the document page / Content area itself (instead of directly placing all the code inside the content area). Now this means the table content is not searched or returned in AdvSearch results.. I should probably make this a separate post.
