Ok, you talked me into it (the discount didn't hurt wink ) Now to figure out what the MODx Manager login will be, since I selected a pre-installed MODx with the account. I will start out by presuming it will be the same as my ftp or cpanel login.

You should receive an email with the login information for MODX. That email is generated by the Softaculous installer - if you don't find it in your mailbox, be sure and check your spam filter.
    • Don't like your instructions on getting the login for CPanel/FTP. Very obscure; the link provided doesn't go anywhere useful. I finally ended up going to the CPanel login and resetting the password from there.
Services -> My Services -> Manage...
there's nothing that I could find about "Manage" in the My Services page.

Their generated email is actually better than most I've seen. Did you setup the nameservers for the domain you setup the account with?

You won't see anything if you didnt do that.

        • Worked quite well with the temporary URL. Except for a couple of odd glitches; when adding resources I kept getting 500 error messages when duplicating. The duplication would succeed, but I'd get a truncated Tree and a popup with the 500 error message. Will see if these still occur when duplicating resources with the DNS propagated.

Interesting... I have two larval sites, one on the MODx cloud and this new one on A2. Exactly the same setup on both of them at this point. Take a look at the time at the bottom of the page, then refresh a few times.

          A2 (Prime Web Hosting - SSD) - http://jewishyou.com/

They are both very close when cache has been cleared. I suspect at this point, nginx vs Apache is making the difference. It will be interesting to see what happens when some images and other files get used. [ed. note: sottwell last edited this post 10 years, 10 months ago.]

@Susan, can you do me a favor and try to move the Softaculous install to another server, I've had major problems moving anything installed with Softaculous so would be interested in hearing your views.

Sottwell - let me know if you continue to receive the error after DNS propagation - we're checking with MODX to see if there is something deeper that needs attention.

Moved over a site today and decreased the load time from 1.20s to 773ms without optimizing a thing. Can't imagine if I actually put some thought into optimizing!
                • Yes, I've heard that Softaculous installations can be problematic. However, after several minutes of repeatedly duplicating resources this morning, I didn't get the 500 errors any more. Two differences; I'm now using the "real" URL and I have friendly URLs turned on and an .htaccess file in place.

Tried it some more using the temporary URL, and still couldn't get the error again. So I dunno. Gremlins wink

I am pretty sure that the speed difference I'm getting between A2 and the MODx Cloud is because there isn't much on the sites yet, and the Cloud is using nginx, which for pure page serving is much faster than Apache. A bit of load on the sites, and I would imagine the SSD file service would catch up with the web service. I notice that the Cloud tends to jump around a lot too, while the A2 speed holds steady.

Glad to see things are working smoothly for you! I did notice the cloud instance jumping around the A2 service holding steady - and I do agree with you that as you add more to your install, the SSD's will make more of an impact. Let me know how things continue to perform for you and if there is anything I can help you with!
