    Hi there,

I've a really weird problem installing modx 2.2.8-pl. I've tried it several times with different FTP programs to uplaod, the error is each time exactly the same. Setup runs through like a charm, after log in into the manager the welcome message appears and behind it it says:
    Unexpected token <:
    Not Found
The requested URL /manager/undefinedsecurity/user.php was not found on this server.
I've attached a screenshot (modx.jpg) from the manager with the error message.
Executing the diagnostic script (https://github.com/craftsmancoding/modx_utils/blob/master/test_config.php) recommended by Bob ends up with a successful message.

Any Ideas what to check else? Btw the settings can't be accessed via the manager, it displays a blank page without any content (except the menu).

It's really a pity because I've finished developing a site with modx localy on my pc, now I just want to move it ;-) but as long as a fresh setup won't work....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Greetings from Vienna, Mike

Try turning off the compress_js System Setting (in the modx_system_settings table in PhpMyAdmin if you can't do it in the Manager).

Then delete all files in the core/cache directory and clear your browser cache and cookies.

        Hi,

thanks for your reply. I set compress_js to 0 and deleted all files under core/cache. Deleted also the browser cache and cookies (in Chrome and IE 9). Unfortunately without success...

Any other things I can do/check?

        Edit:
I now have checked the errors with FF and it says:

Seems you're right that something is wrong with JS - but only disabling the compression seems to be too less. [ed. note: flipflop1974 last edited this post 13 years, 3 months ago.]

Yes I know, I have cleared the cache and cookies several times. I have also installed in my virtual box a fresh FF, browsing the manager there results in the same error...
little frustrating... can my hoster have some essential settings wrong although the setup an the diagnostic script finds everything pretty well?

You could install something like HttpFox to see the results of the AJAX requests in the manager. Or check server error logs. Either might provide more insight...

The only times I've gotten this error was when I was uploading installations file-by-file via FTP, and the files were getting bad line endings somewhere in the process. This made the first one-line comment tag (//) cause the rest of the entire file to be part of that comment, at least as far as the server was concerned. I had to make sure that my FTP client was either keeping the existing line endings, or using all UNIX-style line endings.

You also might want to make sure your files are getting uploaded as the correct type, text or binary. As a general rule, php and js files should be getting uploaded as text, not binary.

Chrome Dev. Tools (turn on with Ctrl-shift-i) also works very nicely for tracing Ajax requests on the Network tab.

                    Hi again,

first of all many thanks to all who answered to my post. Unfortunately nothing has changed after doing / trying this:

                    1. I copied just the downloaded zip file to the server an unzipped it via ssh. Transmission error of single files using ftp can not be the fault. Only the sake of completeness: After downloading the zip, I extracted it on my windows and zipped it again to get rid of the folder modx-2.2.8-pl
                    2. I have attached the results of debugging the loading of the page with httpfox and chrome - for me both are not very helpful
What does modx mean when trying to get files under undefineduser / undefinesassets / undefinedsecurity?

Hmmm, can't upload the screenshots. so put it there:
                    http://michi.profiwebhosting.at/httpfox.PNG
                    http://michi.profiwebhosting.at/chrome_network.PNG

Edit: Saw an open bug with similar behavior there: http://tracker.modx.com/issues/9958
Maybe I'm not the only one facing that curious problem... [ed. note: flipflop1974 last edited this post 13 years, 3 months ago.]

Just to go sure: I have uploaded the modx zip via webuplaod (so no ftp involved) and unzipped it in a SSH session --> results in the same problems. I think my hoster does not support something essential that modx needs to run but does not check in setup.
Is there any list what modx really needs so that I can check all the things?
