hi could anyone please advise the best way to back up.

basically i’m using filezilla every couple of days to back up my webspace from the hosting.

and i’m exporting the database in modx with the general drop table statements selected and all the table names selected also.

if my host loses my site and database loses data also will it be ok for me to reupload my site with filezilla and then somehow import the sql file?

am i doing this right and in best way. any advice would be great thanks.

Well, that should work. But the only way to make sure a backup strategy works is by doing an actual restore at least once. If you want to go that route without risking everything, rename assets into _assets and manager into _manager on your server. Likewise, use an underscore to rename the files in your document root. In phpMyAdmin (or whatever tool you have for managing databases on your server) rename the database into something else. Or create a second database and use that one for the restore. The config.inc.php needs to be modified in that case - the one from the restore, not the original one.

Then upload the files from your backup, create a database and restore the tables from your sql file. If it fails, you still have all the files and data on the server, and you just need to rename the folders and files and database.
