Context Limit

Hey All,

We have a revo cloud instance where we have over 50 different contexts with each context using a different domain name. We are using the gateway manager plugin to manage all the domains. Now we are planning to have over 500 contexts in one modx instance.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience hosting that many different contexts in one modx instance? Is there any upper limit to the number of contexts that we can have or any problems that you encountered?

The most Contexts I've had on single install was 75 and everything was still working fine no performance issues, I am not sure if you would run into issues with 500 that would be a nice test to run and see if performance would be affected and how MODX performs.

This would depend on usage, hardware configurations, etc.

As this is cloud based, you could always pick a number of sites and simply replicate the core of it. But then again I have no idea why you are actually sharing that many contexts... Simplicity? Shared data?

Some MODX sites get into five digits for the number of documents, multiple contexts wouldn't matter much.

We have a client that needs the same site layout to be essentially replicated with a different design and logo for each site. Funky project but it is what it is. Anyway, up to 50 and adding 120 more within 2 weeks. Lets see how far we can take this.

Hosting on the modx cloud platform so I am assuming that their hardward is sound. I am sure it is infact since ModX runs a lot better on their cloud than on any other hosting provider that we have tried thus far.

I dont think hardware will be an issue and obviously if usage goes it up it will become more of a point of concern.

I was more interested in finding out if the ModX codebase itself has any issues running so many contexts. Unless I hear different, 500 here we come.

Will let everyone know how it turns out just incase anyone else has to do something like this.

The only issue we've run into with about 80 contexts is the sessions table gets corrupted from time to time and we have to repair it.
