    Hi!

I'm a designer who has been using modx for quite a large website that has now grown out of control!

    The website

The website in question has a huge list of stores and the locations that they can be found across the usa...

Currently the site has been built in the normal modx way.

    • I have about 300 documents of stores with various TV's for the store information.
    • I also have another container that holds documents for each location

The pages reference eachother using getresources. This is obviously pushing the limits of modx and i want to add about 300 new stores! It hell entering the info so I presumably need a custom database? (and can easily edit via excel as a csv)

    The Solution?

So i have created a new database with following info: state, city, mall, store, phone, longlat and another with store, info, image, tags in my modx db and entered the info.

But how best to pull this info into modx?

I have successfully used the rowboat snippet to show the new list of stores and some info (as before) but this will only show a list of them and not generate a clickable link with the information in the DB created dynamically...

I want to display the information like I currently do: Show all the stores in list form with getresources (each store can be clicked for more information including the store locations)

It would be great if i could create one modx page (stores) and then have a rowboat call? each link is then clickable to a new page (with friendly urls) eg: store/store-name

What is my best option here!?

In my admittedly strongly biased opinion, continue using resources (Revo can easily handle thousands of resources) and manage them with a MIGXdb grid.

I have never used MIGXdb, so I will defer to Sottwell's expertise in that area.

As far as straight xPDO and Snippets I have plenty of experience with that.

I have created 4 page sites which replicated the entire postal structure of the united states. I utilized some slight of hand with .htaccess to pull it off.

In your case I would utilize a snippet and getCollection to pull the locations on one page with each of them linking to the same page with an id of the location. Create a page with placeholders and populate the page with a snippet call at the top of the page which retrieves the location id.

Once you have that working you can look at cleaning up the urls.

Now, I'm off to look at sottwell's link...
