getResources slowing my site (I think)

Hello all,
need a little developer expertise and help with some slowness issues and intermittent crashing to the festival pages on my site.

I've got a programme section of my film festival site setup as follows;

Placed a GetResources snippet on each page of the programme looking at a Films folder in the backend. Depending on the page different resources would be outputted.
e.g. "June 21" returns all resources that have a TV containing the value June 21, likewise "city sounds" returns all films with a TV stating "city sounds"… and so on...

Each film category and date page is delivered this way. [there's probably a cleverer way to do this but this was the most expeditious way I found given my skillset]

Last years site ran a little slow but nothing cumbersome but this year the client is really unhappy.

Are your getResources snippets cached or uncached? There's usually no reason for getResources to be called uncached.

Aaandd... your snippet call is?

@sottwell, I was suspecting it was a cache issue but not sure where to look. How do I set the snippet to cache?

Also whats in your listing chunk, that get resources call is running through all of your TV's so if only a couple are needed add &includeTVList and &processTVList so that it only processes the tv's needed.

Tnx Paulp, I'll have a look into that and report back. So I'm assuming includeTVList makes the snippet scan for only the TVs you specify? I didn't know that getResources processes all the TVs, eek... I have about 20 of them... some with approx 100 characters of text... would that cause slowness?

Resetting the snippets to cache seems to have help things a lot so far.

Yes if you just use &includeTVs=`1` and &processTVs=`1` it will process all tv's so it's always better to list the ones you have in the chunk so that it's not running through everything

[[!getResources...]] your snippet is uncached! Get rid of the ! so that it will be cached.

I'm learning as I go here but sometimes I feel the documentation isn't very friendly to us non-hypertechy design people. I'm strong in CSS/HTML but don't know any PHP I find the language can get very techy leaving me to end up dabble with things I shouldn't e.g. caching. IMHO Mark Hamstra's article should be in the rtfm.

what do you have in the "listing" chunk?
