Modx Revo-cannot find its CSS files?

I am installing ModX Revolution 2.2.4 and all is going well, but in the back end i think the css file is missing - it either loads just some of the page, or the whole page with no CSS.

Please help me.....

1. Clear your browser cache and cookies for the domain.

2. Manually clear (delete) the folders under the core/cache/ folder.

3. Try disabling compress_css and compress_js (if you cannot view the System Settings page, you'll have to go into the database and set those to 0 in the system_settings table)

Try running the test_config.php script from here: https://github.com/craftsmancoding/modx_utils

That will just give you peace of mind that your configuration details are correct.

You may want to double-check your download too... make sure you got the whole thing... and while you're at it, why not install version 2.2.8? That's the newest. If you need 2.2.4 for some reason, be sure to download the security patch: http://modx.com/extras/package/securitypatch20130604

Hello,

thanks to Susan and Andrew ... I just now had the same problem on a 2.2.10 installation on a shared hosting server, installing into a subdirectory.

The test_config.php was green, but I had to set the compress_js and compress_css to 0 in the database and then delete the folders under core/cache/

This issue seems to be due to the server environment and was mentioned in this bug tracker entry: http://bugs.modx.com/issues/8359 and is also mentioned in the documentation: http://rtfm.modx.com/revolution/2.x/getting-started/installation/troubleshooting-installation

I'm not sure which server setting is to address when talking to a provider or checking a hosting before install. Could be zlib.output_compression?

Thanks if somebody can give a hint.
