Impossible to delete core/cache folder from hosting due to permission bug

Hi, I'm trying to delete all files with not working Revo 2.2.7 installation from the hosting, and getting error - permission denied while deleting core/cache folder and its content.

It is not possible to delete it or change permissions to 777.

Filezilla, Cpanel - neither worked.

Can anyone help on this?

I can ask my hosting for the help, but if this issue can not be resolved this will stop me from testing Revo meaning I have to get back to Evo.

Try 755. If that doesn't work, your host may change it for you if you ask.

Leaving it at 777 might create some security problems.

Is it possible to change permissions from within modx?
It is not possible to make any changes for any file or folder created by modx (can't change permissions to 755 or 777, can't delete). It seems that modx creates files with Its own rights permissions and accessing via cpanel I don't have enough privileges to modify files created by modx.

I've already asked my host to delete those files and then reinstalled modx. This does not fixed the problem though. More over since I removed one of the components from the package management and then reinstalled it, I can't delete any file or folder connected with this component.

So there is something wrong around modx and my hosting.

Here are some technical details
modx 2.2.7
Apache/2.0.63 (FreeBSD) PHP/5.2.12 with Suhosin-Patch
MySQL client version: 5.1.24-rc

Host says that there is a problem with files created by scripts - they are created under permission (ownership) of script executor, and it is not the same as person who owns the FTP read/write access.

Actually the files are own by the php process. Modx is not guilty
As far as I remember this is because php is running as fastcgi or something like this..
So, if you want to manage this files, use a php file manager, not ftp. For example this one: http://phpfm.sourceforge.net/

I can change the file permissions on the Files tab in the MODX Manager (by right-clicking on them). If you can't it's because of the way your host has things set up.


BTW, I should have said that on many servers *directories* should be 755 and individual *files* should be 644.

Just changed the host to another one and modx works great! The odd thing is that for the new hosting I pay less having more memory, script execution time and modx works))

It's always nice to have a MODX-friendly host.
