    Hi i’m currently modifying the modxhost template for my site aiming to make it look quite different and in time completely it’s own but as i’m new to this style of cms site management i’m going slowly and trying to learn as i do it.

    anyway there are some "Meta" web standards links on the template in the sidebar which is great but clicking on them returns errors, i could just remove them but figured web standards are a good thing, so would be nice if these validator things worked...

    here is what the "Valid XHTML" one outputs:

    Validation Output: 93 Errors
    1. Error Line 7, Column 44: end tag for "base" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.
    <base href="http://www.insideyork.co.uk/">
    You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".
    2. Info Line 7, Column 2: start tag was here.
    <base href="http://www.insideyork.co.uk/">
    3. Error Line 8, Column 6: end tag for element "base" which is not open.
    </base>
    The Validator found an end tag for the above element, but that element is not currently open. This is often caused by a leftover end tag from an element that was removed during editing, or by an implicitly closed element (if you have an error related to an element being used where it is not allowed, this is almost certainly the case). In the latter case this error will disappear as soon as you fix the original problem.
    If this error occurred in a script section of your document, you should probably read this FAQ entry.
    4. Error Line 59, Column 110: required attribute "alt" not specified.
    …/york/GD.jpg" width="93" height="127">

    The attribute given above is required for an element that you’ve used, but you have omitted it. For instance, in most HTML and XHTML document types the "type" attribute is required on the "script" element and the "alt" attribute is required for the "img" element.
    Typical values for type are type="text/css" for <style> and type="text/javascript" for <script>.
    5. Error Line 59, Column 111: end tag for "img" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.
    …york/GD.jpg" width="93" height="127">

    You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".
    6. Info Line 59, Column 24: start tag was here.
    <img border="0" src="http://www.insideyorks.co.uk/york/G
    7. Error Line 59, Column 115: end tag for "br" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.
    …/GD.jpg" width="93" height="127">

    You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".
    8. Info Line 59, Column 111: start tag was here.
    …york/GD.jpg" width="93" height="127">

    9. Error Line 60, Column 70: end tag for "br" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.
    … <strong>THE GHOST DETECTIVE TOUR</strong>

    You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".
    10. Info Line 60, Column 66: start tag was here.

    etc etc, the list goes on!

    and here is the "Valid CSS" one:

    URI : http://www.insideyork.co.uk/assets/templates/insideyork/insideyorklayout.css
    25 #wrapper Property _height doesn’t exist : 82px
    202 #content p Property _line-height doesn’t exist : 16px

    is this normal, or have a messed this up?? thanks for any help...

      Actually, most things are explained from the validator:

      Validation Output: 93 Errors
      1. Error Line 7, Column 44: end tag for "base" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.
      <base href="http://www.insideyork.co.uk/">
      You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".

      The validator tells you here that for XHTML you need to self-close all elements that are not having closing tags with "/>"

      For the base href that means: <base href="http://www.insideyork.co.uk/" />

      Most of the validator messages will be gone if you fix that type of error.

      4. Error Line 59, Column 110: required attribute "alt" not specified.
      …/york/GD.jpg" width="93" height="127">

      Images require an alt=" " attribute, with a short description of the image. And images are also closing with "/>" and line breaks require < br />

      Correct: <img border="0" src="http://www.insideyorks.co.uk/york/GD.jpg" width="93" height="127" alt="alternative description" />< br />
