The child-pages would have a image-TV and three text-TVs or you can use some existing fields like pagetitle,content,longtitle....., it they are not used

To get the List displayed use getResources.

Or, if you don't need to have them as child-Resources and you can store all informations into one single Field(TV) of the 'parent', MIGX could be an option

you can buy me a beer, if you like MIGX

        - I am very new to MODX, so I am going to describe WordPress experience to try and explain myself. There are several WordPress plugins functioning, putting it simple, like this:

There is a child page. Being in admin panel mode, it is possible to create a "manual excerpt", a short text and have it to be associated with the page. And a "featured image" - an image to be also associated with the page, to be its thumbnail.

A plugin, running from the parent page. It finds all the child pages of the parent page, takes title + "featured image" + "manual excerpt" of each and outputs them in an area on the parent page, creating something like a gallery.

If I got you right, image-TV on the child page would allow end user to change the image, three text-TVs would allow to edit three fields of text. And getResources would find all the child pages, then display a "gallery" within an area on the parent page. A gallery made up of items consisting of image + three fields of text from all these child pages. Right?

So, maybe you know a link with a more detailed description how to do it all? TVs are not a big deal, but getResources seems to be a little complicated when it is your second day.

Also, is it possible to get pagination with getResources - the list of child pages may get too large and there may happen to be a need to break it into several pages. [ed. note: viener last edited this post 13 years, 5 months ago.]

Yes this can be done pretty easily like Bruno suggested, your best bet would be using getResources look at the create a blog using getResources tutorial it will give you a better idea on how to accomplish this.

Here is the getPage documentation where it uses getResources in order to create pagination.

If you're new to MODX I also suggest you take a look at my site CMSTricks and some of the links I have there as well so you can get a better understanding of the things you can do with MODX.

Hope that helps, good luck and welcome to MODX.

Since my reply to Bruno17 ( https://forums.modx.com/thread/84587/how-to-display-child-pages-as-thumbnails-three-text-fields-on-a-parent-page#dis-post-466671 ) I found several rather scattered examples on the matter, but very mostly from MODX Evolution case. So I succeeded in making what I wanted under MODX Evolution with Ditto. Maybe later I post here the steps I have taken to.

I would have not been able to do anything without examples I found.

So the question on MODX Revolution case is still on. [More] links for examples will be very much appreciated.

              - "Integrating a template into MODX" series from your CMSTricks was one of the first things found. It helped with the initial MODX things. I am going to read about Gallery and MIGX also.

              - I would say, we will see about being welcome. The first steps - their success or not - may be a welcome, may be a farewell. All in all I like MODX, it is a reasonable way for a web designer with HTML+CSS knowledge to go from design to web site.
