Hi all,
I want to make it as easy as possible for my users, so I have hidden most of the options in the manager with ManagerManager. But I have a problem with the aliases. (not related to ManagerManager per se)
I have set MODx to automatically create aliases, and that works fine. Except if my users change the title of the page at some point. Then the alias isn’t updated, it remains the same.
I haven’t been able to find any info on it. How can I do this? Thankyou in advance.
I think it’s a bad idea to mutate an existing alias automatically when the title is changed, because visitors coming from a search engine or bookmark would get a 404 error. If an alias is changed, it would be good practice to add a redirect permanent to the .htaccess, so the page is still found with the old URI.
I guess these are the reasons why the alias is not changed automatically by default, even if it’s set to be created automatically.
If you want to change that behavior anyway, you can look into save_content.processor.php, line 64, where the code starts for creating the alias. Instead of hacking that code however you may write a plugin based on it, so can still update the core.

You’re right. It’s sensible not to change the alias automatically. I’ll educate my users, and if they really do want to change it, they’ll have to come to me.
Thankyou for your reply.
