I’ve looked and looked and have yet to find anyone with this question or a hack to make it work.
I’d like to have Managers have the ability to post new blog entries on the front-end just like Web Users would have. Is this possible with NewsPublisher? Shouldn’t the default admin account have this capability anyway or am I missing something? Is there a hack for NewsPublisher to enable this or a mod that syncs the Web Users with the Manager Users (only for the sole purpose of adding blog entries).
The scenario is this: I have a website that has webpages dedicated to certain members. Those members have Manager accounts that enables them to manage JUST that page. I also have a central Blog on the site that I want to open up to all Managers and allow them to post new Blog entries. However, I do not want them to have to log into two different logins to do this. Make sense?
modx v. 0.9.6
Default Installation
Any help is greatly appreciated
Jeremy
One of the quirks with MODx user management (I think it is a quirk anyway, it is in reality a safety feature) is that manager and web users are 100% independent. Logged in as a manager is not the same as logged in as a web user. The way to do what you want is to create a web account for the administrator and log in as web user to update the blog.
There is a cool snippet that will syncronize a manager user with a web user on the fly. I dont remember the name but I think the name is something like manager2web or something like that.
dev_cw,
Thank you for the quick reply.
I am aware and have found the manager2web mod but all it does is create a web user based on the credentials of a manager user. They are still separate and distinct in their permissions.
I am currently using the ManagerLogin snippet and it works great. This enables the Managers to log in on the front-end, get redirected to their page, and start editing. I just wanted to add the functionality of enabling them to then go to the blog page and add a blog entry without having to log in somewhere else.
I looked at the NewsPublisher code and sort-of saw how it was validating users based on Web User Group, etc. I wondered if there was a hack out there that validated users based on Manager Users Groups vice Web User Groups. I’m no code genius so I’m not sure what I’m looking at, only know what I want.
I suppose the other option is to use manager2web and just have the WebLogin snippet on the blog page somewhere. Again, that requires them to login twice which doesn’t seem efficient to me.
Thanks again,
Jeremy

Originally Etomite only had manager users. That was one of the things MODx was, a set of mods to Etomite, including the Web User subsystem. So the 0.9.6xx codebase still has that "bolted-on" legacy.
