I am wondering if there are ways to use the Gallery Extra (because it has a useful manager UI) with a simple TV like this:

I want to have a TV where the User simply chooses an image from a Gallery album. Nothing more.

The included GalleryItemTv provides such a functionality, a nice tree of (all) albums to choose the image. But I don't want any cropping or resizing features there - which are definetely not suited for my customer users - and IMHO somehow useless because most of that features would be included in my website's styling and templating code.

So what is the best way to have on one hand a nice album and image chooser and on the other hand nothing more than a image src output - which gives me full control over the frontend display of the image through my own phpthumb-options?

My current workaround is to have a Image TV (file based) and an assigned media source which points to the file path of the gallery (sadly hard coded then)...

I would like to extend the gallery package with that tv type - should be a quite straightforward adoption of the existing itemtv, but I am no good with the ExtJs stuff...

Simple guess: Did you try changing the tv output type from 'galleryitem' to 'text' or
image'? My assumption is that this prevents the gallery extra from cropping and resizing and you get a straight forward image src output which you can modify for your own needs.

The TV output is not the problem for me. There are serveral ways to control this, as you mentioned.
My concern is with the TV input: I do not want a complex form presented to the user. I just want a user working with a resource, to choose one image from a given album. I don't want the cropping/resizing/watermarking/css stuff to be presented to the user, as this is far beyond the capabilities of normal users.

You could probably use MIGX and set the gallery as a media source using the method described here

          Hope that helps, good luck.

I would love the same functionality.
I'm having trouble when trying to use a regular image tv with Gallery Media Source.
            Did you find a solution?
