    I am moving a modx 2.1.5-pl site to a new server.

    When I run setup (Upgrade and Files already in Place) and click Next I immediately get this error:

    FATAL ERROR: MODX Setup cannot continue.

    I see the bullet point but there is nothing in it. I thought maybe php errors were not on but they are.

    Any idea what I need to do to get MODX to run setup?

    MODX 2.1.5-pl (I'm using the setup files for this version as well)
    PHP Version 5.3.20
    Time/Date America/Chicago (tested and this works and is accurate)

      Might be worthwhile to see if there is a server error log you could look at. Also have you tried installing a fresh version of MODX to see if the issue is more related with the act of moving than the server environment?

        I would try running a utility to check your configuration details: https://github.com/craftsmancoding/modx_utils/blob/master/test_config.php

        That can help spot any typos or bad paths or bad permissions, but really the server error log is gonna be your best bet to see what exactly is failing.

          This host, which I don't have a choice on using, doesn't give me access to almost anything but I could ask them to send me the server logs.

          I'll try and new install of the version I need and see if that does helps isolate the issue.

            Great script.

            I ran it and was making some changes as it showed them. The most recent run on it shows this which I don't know what to do.

            Warning: include_once(/services3/webpages/c/a/example.com/public/core/xpdo/om/mysql5/xpdodriver.class.php) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /services3/webpages/c/a/example.com/public/core/xpdo/xpdo.class.php on line 1453

            From config.inc.php:
            $modx_core_path= '/services/webpages/c/a/example.com/public/core/';

            Of course I switched the domain to example.com but the domain was correct.

              I believe that is within the config file, but I will doubly check this shortly and let you know. Double check those paths in the meantime, I will try and get online ASAP once home.

                Yes those are in the /core/config/config.inc.php files and they are correct.

                  Shouldn't be affecting your setup, but check out the manager/config.core.php and connectors/config.core.php files - apparently those have a malconfigured MODX_CORE_PATH. I wonder if there's a setup/config.core.php too?

                    Here is what is in my config.core.php for the 2 places you mentioned. I tried using the commented-out line and then I also tried it with the second line but I still get the same error.

                    //define('MODX_CORE_PATH', dirname(__FILE__) . '/core/');
                    define('MODX_CORE_PATH', '/services/webpages/c/a/example.com/public/core/');
                    define('MODX_CONFIG_KEY', 'config');

                    Within setup there is /setup/includes/config.core.php which has this:

                    define ('MODX_CORE_PATH', MODX_INSTALL_PATH . 'core/');
                    define ('MODX_CONFIG_KEY', 'config');
                    define ('MODX_SETUP_KEY', '@traditional@');

                      Let me know if I can update the utility script -- I'd like for it to be as useful as possible for folks who run into snags like this.
