Either way, it was quite a fun (and stressful) project due to going through at least 3 grid systems, learning SASS, and getting new employees up to speed on MODX and getting old employees OFF of Joomla CMS.

Although, I personally love the new toys we created in MODX that make SEO such a breeze!

Well, just to be picky, FAQ's is the possessive form; something that belongs to a FAQ. Plurals do not take an apostrophe. Besides, even if it did, it would be redundant. FAQ is the acronym for Frequently Asked Questions - already plural.

The grey main text is a little difficult for me to see, with my bad eyes. http://www.web-accessibility.org.uk/web-accessibility-for-people-with-poor-eyesight-and-colour-blindness.html Probably for the same reason, the footer seems kind of busy and confusing. I have to force myself to look at it and see what's there. The "Phone", "Email" and "Connect with us" headings aren't necessary and just add to the visual clutter there.

YES! I want someone to be picky! This gives me fuel for my morning meeting with my design team. For the past few weeks we have been working with "new this, new that" so these 'little' things definitely need to be nipped in the bud.

So basically, I want to give BIG THANKS to you for taking the time!

A little history here...

I took my team, pulled them off of their "comfort zone" working with things such as Joomla, non-grid (non responsive) based layouts, and regular CSS and threw them into everything new. Everything new being MODX, SASS, OnePercent Grid, 1140 Grid, then ultimately Foundation. This project got scrapped and rebuilt 3 times using the above grid systems.

It's been pure chaos here recently telling my team, "Here's something new that everybody has to learn and embrace."

P.S. I saw in another post you were looking into a good grid system - have you tried Foundation (by Zurb?). It's a little deep but I believe it gives Twitter Bootstrap a good run for competition.

Actually, I've played with several of these "new" fluid and responsive grid systems, and they all have advantages and disadvantages. I can't say that any one of them struck me as "better" than any of the others. Right now, I'm concentrating on the various pre-built free responsive templates, to get them ported to Revo so that there will be a good supply of quick-to-install free templates floating around. At least once I get MyComponent or a different package-making system figured out. I can recommend the A Book Apart ebooks; small, concise, and quite reasonably priced, and very good introductions to mobile and responsive design.

As far as my picky review, I tend to be that way in the morning before I've fully woken up, and with a six-month-old Irish Setter puppy in the house I'm definitely up early these days.

I love picky reviews. Gives me a backup when I tell my guys to fix it. As of now, a majority of those 'picks' were addressed in my morning meeting.

Nothing beats a fresh set of eyes.

I would set a height on .banner-wrapper . I am no fan of areas changing size just cause elements hasnt been loaded fully. Then obv adjust the height with mediaqueries.

You bring up a good point. I never really paid much attention to it at the office because our speeds here are blazing fast. On slower connections (using the iPad) it does jump.

This was one of our first client project using MODX and we're still learning more and more every day.

Actually that's a styling/CSS issue, and has nothing to do with MODx. I recommend A Book Apart's short, inexpensive books for getting into the interesting bits of HTML5 and CSS.

Let me rephrase that then - this was one of the first MODX projects we launched while fumbling around with different grid systems.

I'll take the blame though while defending 'my guys' -- I put them through the paces after they were comfortable using Joomla or Wordpress. I introduced them to MODX, Foundation, SASS, Breakpoints, and of course 3 other grid systems we "thought" we were going to use. They really didn't have to worry much before since you were so limited by Joomla or Wordpress. Nothing is pre-built here any more like it used to be. We always did custom but custom + other CMS applications usually mean with restrictions. Now there are no limits.

But, yes - this DOES go back to the basics of web design being CSS3/HTML5. [ed. note: adagency last edited this post 13 years, 3 months ago.]

Reminds me of when I got a Bichon Frise puppy who had spent over a month in a cage in a pet store. At home, he immediately ran into a corner, and wouldn't venture out for more than a couple of feet for three days. Of course, he did get over that habit of being so limited in his movements, and started tearing the house apart as any good healthy puppy should (just now I have an Irish Setter puppy, who being bigger can get into a great deal more trouble).

Once you get used to the unlimited freedom MODx gives you, design becomes fun again - not that I'm a very good designer, but it is a lot of fun.
