Running and testing multiple sites on localhost.

    I am using modx on localhost to develop and test sites before going live with them. I am using MAMP on my iMac. What is the easiest way to have multiple test sites on localhost?

      Create multiple root folders in MAMP? I haven't used MAMP, although I suspect it's similar to XAMPP with a root htdocs directory that you can add folders to? Install MODX on each folder, just like you would on a live server. Your localhost manager url would be localhost/siteFolder/manager/.

        Yes, it's easy with MAMP. I drag the default Assets/MAMP/htdocs folder to the Finder sidebar to make things easier, and use subdirectories. I also have my browser's home page set to localhost so I get a listing of my installations. I access these from my Parallels virtual machines using the IP address assigned by my wireless router, since I'm too lazy to set up proper hosts files for the Windows virtual machines.

        The only trick is to make sure to get the paths right when moving to a production server, and especially not to forget about the RewriteBase in the .htaccess file.
