For one of our projects we created a ModX site with some custom modules. Then we tried to duplicate the site for another project. We did a (commandline) copy of the files, changed the rights to the new user, checked the folder-rights and duplicated the database. Then we changed the config file with the new database settings and a new sessionname. Then I also changed the site_id in the database and the paths in the manager configuration.

Everything on the site works fine, except for the manager. When I login I get the following javascript pop up:

When I refresh the page after clicking the "OK" button of the warning I get into the manager and everything works fine. But I can’t figure out what is causing the javascript warning.

    Anyone any idea?

    Thanks in advance.

Once I had a similar problem and it was because the username and password for the database were correct, but the database name was incorrect in file: manager/includes/config.inc.php

Anyway, why you don’t start all over again and follow the method described here:

      http://www.modxcms.com/moving-sites-to-new-servers.html

On step 6 I’d really use phpMyAdmin to import the Database.

I’m sure the databasename is correct, because the rest of the site is working without a glitch. Starting over by installing ModX and then adding all the content, modules, snippets, chunks and templates will cost me at least one or two days of work. So that’s not an option...

You don’t have to install Modx at all. You can duplicate your site in minutes just by following the instructions on the link I provided.

I know step 1 says "install the site locally", but since you have already created your website, then you don’t have to install nothing. Just rename and edit the .htaccess file as mentioned on step 1 and verify the paths to your new duplicated website on Step 2.

On Step 3, edit the file config.local.inc.php with the new database connection settings. The new database and db user have to be already created. On Step 4 just copy this folders: /manager and /assets, and this files /index.php and /.htaccess to your new website folder, and that’s it!

Follow the rest of the steps and your’ done.

ofcourse, this is the procedure I followed. I already did more then a dozen of ModX installations/migrations etc, so i’m familiar with this procedure. But I never had this problem before...

I’ve solved a few odd problems like this by doing an upgrade install. It’s generally non-destructive.

But the installed version is already the latest, can I still execute an upgrade tot the same version?

Yes, I always run the install upgrade when moving servers to get the cache sync’d up; just uncheck everything in the add-on options (and make sure not to select the sample site option) when upgrading, at least if you’ve customized any default snippets without renaming them.
