    Hi,

I was a fan of Etomite, until one of my clients requested front end user logins. It can be done with etomite, but it feels more like a hack than a something it’s meant to do. If I understand correctly ModX can do this already in a basic install. Therefore I’m really happy I found this cms.

    But..

I understand that upgrading from Etomite is easy, but what will happen to the 80 users I already have in Etomtite. I figure they will all become manager users instead of web users. Can I easily change something in the database after the upgrade to make those manager users become webusers? Are there any other issues I should take in to account?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can’t speak to the manager/web user question personally, since I’ve never converted an Etomite site with web users before. But I have converted several Etomite sites to MODx over the last couple years and I’ve never had any issue with it at all (it’s just like updating an older version of MODx). If you do find that your users have become managers when they should be web users, I imagine a quick MySQL query (which you could base on the text generated by the backup script) would correct that in a jiffy.

        Thanks for your heads up.

I’m looking at the database structure of a clean install of ModX and I see totally different tables for web users and manager users:

        modx_web_users
        modx_web_user_attributes
        modx_web_user_settings

        and

        modx_manager_users

it’s not like I have to change one attribute in the users table to make a web user a manager user. I’m a total beginner at MySQL. How hard will it be to convert my manager users to webusers? Anyone with experience on this matter? (or someone with MySQL skills?)

I am unable to locate it right now, but someone created a resource that allowed you to convert manager users to web users or vice versa, it might be a place to start.
