I have a general question for anyone willing to share. I have been traditionally storing contacts from website contact forms in a custom contacts table and supplying a custom module to view those contacts.
however, i recently did a site for a client in which story submissions were submitted by users and we used the docAPI to store each submission as an unpublished ’doc’ in the content table. the admins check the recent story submissions by viewing the new ’docs’ in the menu tree of the manager and moving them to an approved directory once they are reviewed. i found that this was an interesting way to use existing architecture to possibly also handle general contacts from the website.
and another method i have thought about is storing the contacts to the web user groups. the only issue is that i know that the web user form in the manager does not allow duplicate email addresses (for reasons i am guessing are related to the fact that password reminders are sent to the email address). but if that’s the only reason for checking for duplicate email address, would that be a viable means of storing contacts from the website contact form? are there any reasons not to do this that i would be overlooking?
