I have my /assets folder set to 755 and files within in to 644. However when you go to www.mysite.com/assets/ the folder is browse-able - how can I disable people to browse up and down the tree in my assets folder? As soon as I restrict permissions for those folders the files/images in the assets folder cannot be read by MODx... [ed. note: ficklelife last edited this post 13 years, 5 months ago.]

That is a function of the web server. It should be configured to disallow directory indexing. If you're using Apache, you can do that in your .htaccess file http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess11.shtml

Or, you can add an index.html file to each directory.
