Just a quick question, do you need to use Wayfinder in order to get FURLs to work or to be able to use them in the first place?
No, Wayfinder, does nothing else, as collecting Resources and output them as nested unordered lists, in the order, as defined with the left-side Resource-tree.
Internally it uses the API-function $modx->makeUrl() to generate the FURLs

You can build your own snippets and use this function or you can just put URL-tags anywhere.
