Newbie: Sample Site not in Package Manager & MAMP Issue

I wanted to get up to speed by installing and checking out the http://modx.com/extras/package/modxsamplesite ModX Sample Site but it's proving much more difficult than I had hoped.

A) That package is on the website (that link above). But I cannot find it via searching in my Manager - neither the search nor looking through the "Site Packages" category on the left nav there in the manager.

That seems unexpected.

B) So I decided to download it directly from the link above and add it to the core/packages folder and unzip the file. But it doesn't show in the Package Manager list.

C) So I decided to try a common package (Gallery) installed from the manager. It downloads and shows in the Package Manager list. When I click "install" the Ajax takes me to the Changelog view. Going back, the package shows "Not Installed."

My MAMP:
PHP Version 5.3.2
'--with-curl=/Applications/MAMP/Library'
cURL support enabled

So C) is solved. Was just a UI issue with the manager - splitting the page oddly where if the mouse is on the left of the page and you scroll down, it doesn't scroll down, making you think you are at the end of the page - and if the mouse is in the body of the text field then only THAT section scrolls... so it's not clear that there is more info that you can scroll to below.

Anyway, C is solved. Just leaves A and B... Thanks.

I looked at the link and it seems the package is out of date: it supports up to Revolution 2.1.

I was about to suggest getting an earlier version of Revolution, but they don't seem to be available anymore. I did some searching and I would suggest you do a search on Flexibility... it has some sample content there. I just installed it using the latest version of MODX, so I can confirm it will work.

On your installation of Gallery, when you see the Changelog, click on Continue in the bottom right-hand corner to install it. If you don't see continue, but instead "Setup Options" you need to provide some settings before it will work.
