Basic question: How to develop MODX Revo Extensions

Hello Everyone,

We are in the process of migrating from Evo to Revo. While migrating, we are rewriting all of our snippets and extra features.
We never before made addons for MODX we simply build it all through snippets and code not using MODX functionality at all.

We have just started using PHP Storm, Git and Revo.

We want to build all our code into components. we have custom DB tables for all of them. We want to make functions in our classes and also extend the xPDOObject.


My questions are:

Does anyone have a guide for developing in an environment outside MODX?
Is MyComponent or ModExtra the way to go?

We worked it out

We used Bob Ray's Guide to Custom Database tables http://bobsguides.com/custom-db-tables.html
And a bunch of examples from the RTFM especially also the tutorial mentioned above.
And last but not least MODX: The official Guide, this book is awesome, it has really help us a lot in our knowledge of MODX Revolution, we had a lot of Aha-moments and that-is-so-awesome-moments.

We are probably going to take a look at MyComponent in the near future, but for now we are rolling
