      Honestly, both.

It's good to have both for a few reasons:
      - browser and platform cross checking
      - tools and apps available on one but not the other
      - vulnerabilities - at this time windows 8 is the most secure OS on the planet

I became a new mac user about 2 1/2 years ago. Is it great? Absolutely. Is it better than my windows machine? Give and take. Course I always had fast PCs I built myself and not your run of the mill Dell etc. Personally I believe whatever gets the job done is the best solution. Anyone who just blindly picks sides without hearing both arguments on the good things the opposition offers is just foolish. I choose not to be a hypocritical fan boy and can appreciate the good points of both.

Which is better? Both are excellent!

A virtual machine program like Parallels for Mac can provide the best of both worlds. I have three VMs on my Parallels at the moment, two with Windows 7 for different purposes, and one with Windows 8. I put enough memory on my machine that I can run at least two VMs and OS X at the same time without any noticeable slowdown.

I have no strong feelings on the matter, but the last time I checked, it seemed that you got more bang for the buck with a PC.

Windows looks better on my MacBook than it does natively on the HP I got from work.

                Are you joking????? laugh

I would suggest Linux or Mac if you wanna feel secure. And productive too.

I'll admit I'm a Windows guy (going forward from the days where it was a revelation that there was a platform where computers from different manufactures were compatible with each other). Where I've recently started working there is no I.T. department so I end up doing most of the I.T. support, it's a Mac centric arts organisation, using a spread of new and old Macs that go back to PowerPC days. Recently we upgraded the central server from an old PowerPC unit to a new Mac Pro. It may be a somewhat specialist case but having to get a workflow between old and new machines when it comes to applications like FileMaker and needing to retrain people in new and sometimes more complex procedures because the new versions of applications and their file types required on one machine were completely incompatible with older machines was a real headache.

That being said, we get numerous artists in who use Macs and say "I want to buy a new computer, should I get a Mac or PC?" I say, if you're happy with OS X, buy a Mac.

In regard to security, in my experience the "Mac is more secure" argument is flawed. For example from a non-Mac machine I can access and modify files on a networked Mac through a file browser that you can't even access from the Mac itself without going through a terminal interface.

The whole idea that Mac's are more "productive" in a creative way is a fallacy perpetuated from the small window when Macs were first with point and click, desktop publishing, postscript, laser printers etc etc.

But I'm not against advocating Macs, if it works for you and you're comfortable with it, stick with it. [ed. note: absent42 last edited this post 13 years, 5 months ago.]
