    Hi,

Been looking into CMS on and off for a while now and decided to take the plunge. I have been designing customer sites with php includes and want something a little easier to update that doesn’t require special software for clients .. hence me coming here.

I’ve read the very basic instructions on creating a template but got lost on where to put the css file. I eventually uploaded it to my public_html/ folder (thinking that it would have been entered from the CMS Manager end) - maybe not?.

Can someone point me in the right direction with regards to understanding the basics of this CMS? - I’m interested in making my life easier by

    a)  generating websites quicker (just by modding my templates)
    b) making websites that my clients can change and add/edit themselves
    c) have a dynamically generated breadcrumb trail
    d) search engine friendly URLS

Just a couple of URL’s would be great. When I’ve got a grip of this I’ll see what else this can do and probably ask more interesting questions  rolleyes

    Thanks in advance

Guess these are the most important links to get you started:

For breadcrumbs, use this snippet: http://modxcms.com/Breadcrumbs-577.html

Thanks, I hadn’t seen the wiki stuff, that’ll get me started. smiley

You’ve definitely come to the right place (IMO). I think you’ll find that MODx has exactly what you need.

Friendly URLs are an option in the Manager (Tools | Configuration | Friendly URLs tab). You’ll have rename ht.access to .htacces and edit the rewrite rule there, but once you get it right, it’s all automatic.

Your .css files can go anywhere as long as you put the correct path to them in your template header. Mine are in the assets/css/ folder.

        Welcome to MODx.
