Because your context needs to have those settings specified in order for it to know where the config files will point to, the manual way and ContextRouter work the same way the difference is that you don't need to create any config files with ContextRouter, the only thing you need with ContextRouter are the Context settings I mentioned.

Also make sure you clear your cache each time you make changes to your Context settings in order to see the changes.

But I removed all the config files. As it is, all I have is my context with the appropriate settings. ContextRouter is not installed. There are no config files anywhere. It's just magically working. lol

Did you clear MODX cache and your browsers cache?

Did you delete all the files you created for the context? The config.core.php, .htaccess and index.php for the second context?

To make sure uninstall ContextRouter and choose force remove package to see if it still works, I doubt ContextRouter would not clean up after itself since it was made by my good ol pal Mark Hamstra and I know how he works.

Faced with the same problem that occurs, on my hosting directive open_basedir limited php folder domain. So, subdomain could not open the settings on the main domain. So - check the open_basedir.

Сделал субдомен, ContextRouter настроил правильно, субдомен выдает 503 ошибку, начал выяснять почему, оказалось на хостинге open_basedir ограничивался папкой домена/субдомена, в результате 503 ошибка вылезала из-за того, что php не мог получить настройки основного сайта.
