Take your pick...

Filezilla is a competent and regularly updated open source solution..

Try FTPCommander... free, robust and easy to use....

If you use FireFox try http://fireftp.mozdev.org/.
It opens as another tab within FF.
I’ve stopped using anything else!

I’m partial to the free software, WS_FTP LE which, sadly, is pretty hard to find, no longer supported, and probably won’t work in Vista. Ipswitch now has WS_FTP Home and Pro which both cost more than they should (IMHO).

I tried to use Filezilla to upload a MODx site, but I found the user interface kind of clunky and some of the files didn’t make it even though it reported success. Many people swear by it and the price is right so maybe I did something wrong.

I’ve also been using the built-in FTP in NuSphere’s PhpED (an unbelievably fabulous editor, BTW). The PhpED FTP is blindingly fast and, so far, totally reliable. You need the Pro version if you need smart synching but the regular version works fine if you just need to move files. You can download the trial version of either one and it’s fully functional until the time limit runs out.

As people have pointed out, there’re lots of FTP clients available:

If you’re on windows, I would recommend SmartFTP - it’s featurefull, has a good interface and is free for personal use.

It’s available here: http://www.smartftp.com/

I also use FireFTP lately and like it well enough.

I haven’t been able to find a "real" FTP client for Linux that I like so far, which surprised me (FileZilla is the closest I’ve found to WS_FTP Pro, which is what I used on Windows).

WinSCP is another pretty decent free FTP client for Windows, if you’re using that.

I’d vouch for SmartFTP too, I’ve used many others but the interface is good and the backup function and quick connect is fantastic.
