So I got a call from one of my clients that their FURLs arnt working. I snoop around and notice the .htaccess file is not present in the root directory. I transplant one from another of my sites and hey presto! everythings ok.
My concern is how could this happen? The site has been up for literally years and never had an issue like this. On top of this I am the only one with FTP access to it and I havent logged on in weeks. This literally happened overnight.
Would anyone know how this happened?
It could be that your host did it. A rare few shared hosting services frown on .htaccess files. It's also possible that a tech. at your host did it by accident.
Another possibility is that you've been hacked and it was interfering with the hack. I would take a close look at the index.php file in the root, for starters.
