Totally new and have used the search function. I have a new install from hostgator and MODx says the installer is still in the server file and should be removed and is located at ,,,,,/setup/ Do I delete the entire setup directory or one of the install files under. thank you.
You should delete the entire setup directory.
It's good to save a copy on your local machine in case you have to re-install at some point. It's in the .zip file you downloaded from MODX, so just don't delete that and you can extract the setup directory, zip it up, and upload it to your site.
I would the only problem is that i never downloaded any files for MODx. Host gators quick install does everything in the background from the server. If I ever need to reinstall how hard is it to get ahold of the setup directory.

Just download the exact same version from
http://modx.com/download (there is a "previous releases" tab if you need it).
The download is a .zip file that contains the setup directory.
