Hi all,
I’ve got an important question about the automatic 301 redirect capabilities of MODx.
If I create a page on my MODx site and use a static, search-friendly URL .... but then later down the track I wish to modify the URL .... does the CMS automatically implement a 301 redirect from the old URL to the newer one.
This is frequently overlooked by so many CMSes I have used. Yet it is extremely important in order that any users who may have bookmarked or followed an external link to the page do receive a 404 error from the old page.
Does anyone know whether auto-redirect are built into the framework. It’s also a vital element if your site ranks in a search engine but you change the URL. If you don’t have a 301 redirect inbuilt, your great ranking will disappear as soon as you change the URL ... because that well-ranked page then becomes a crappy 404 error.
This will be built in into 0.9.7 but right now you can have 301 redirect with the
Strict SEO plugin
This plugin uses 301 redirects to forward users and search engines alike to a single URL based on plugin and FURL configuration.
