I think media sources have to have web permissions as well, don't you need web permissions to use the file manager?
Thank you Bob and Susan. I ran through my ACL again and found out that i hadn't given permission to file_list. wich was preventing the files from showing up. (so probably would have already been able to upload, just not view the files.).
I think i now have a minimalistic understanding of how this works. (not saying i like it ).
Is there now some way that i can export these settings, so that in my next install i don't need to go through the hassle again?
TBH, I cut and paste the ACL entries into a text file when I want to duplicate them somewhere and recreate them by hand. I don't know of an easier way.
I've thought about doing an Extra that exports them to a transport package, or adding that capability to MyComponent, but I never seem the have the time and I suspect that whatever I did wouldn't be at all compatible with MODX 3.

From what I understand, nothing much user-management related will be the same in 3.
