    Hello!

I’ve got one question - is it possible to have some LiveJournal or MySpace functionality in ModX.
    What would be great -

    1. To specify friends among web-users. So I could look in my profile and see the list of my friends. And also use ditto to look through
my friends list blog and news posts?

    2. To create communities/ So I could join so community and get access to some of it’s info.

    3. To create opened and closed communities (opened - anyone can enter, closed - only after the team accepts the invitation).

It would be great, if someone could help my to clafiry this situation!

    Thanks in advance!

This is all certainly possible using MODx as a base. It is a "content management framework", after all. It would require good PHP and database coding skills, but modules and snippets to incorporate what you’ve mentioned could be done. After all, it’s all in the database wink

The xPDO based core of 0.9.7 would be an even more appropriate base for such an endeavor, however. It should be possible to code most of the custom functionality with xPDO, and be able to plug it in to the new MODx core once it’s available.

It is built on xPDO. The core is totally different from the 0.9.6 codebase. Actually, the MODx core is only one module (I know that’s not the proper terminology, but I’m still trying to get my head wrapped around this technology) that uses the xPDO framework that Jason et. al. have built. From my understanding, it will be very simple (well, to those who understand this stuff) to make more "modules", that will all be able to interact with each other. Forums, ecommerce, mailing lists, whatever, thus leaving the MODx core to do its content management thing without itself being cluttered up with everything else.

As I’ve said before, MODx now is a CMS that provides the functionality of a framework. The new xPDO codebase will turn this on its head, providing a framework with a CMS.

This is an excellent way of putting it.

Wow =) So the last my question — when (of course approximately) web developers and coders will be able to check the new 0.9.7 release? =)

097 is making daily progress, but there are a lot of corner cases to work out for it to be broadly supportable on a variety of server platforms. Those tweaks and changes continue to be made as we actually "eat our own dog food" and implement sites with it (and it’s looking really good, but does not have the level of polish that 096x enjoys).
