Is there a way to get rid of the bolded section below:

    www.yourdomain.com/modx-0.9.6/index.php?action=post;board=10.0

I’ll worry about SE Friendly links later. For now, I just would like to not advertise to the world what the CMS is (not that it’s not a great CMS or anything, of course).

    Thanks.

Looks like you created a modx-0.9.6 folder in your document root and installed it from there. Move the content of that folder into your document root and adjust the paths in the configuration settings.

        Gah. That’s untidy.

Er... why not just rename that folder?

I think renaming the folder is a lazy way to correct a mistake, as nate22 probably did not intentionally install in a folder.

I had exactly the same issue as nate22, my dilemma was through sheer laziness at not wanting to move my website into the root folder, lol. (not saying in the slightest that nate22 has the same reason as me)

I played around with mod_rewrite to see if the sub-directory could be ’masked out’ that way - I think it would certainly be possible but my mod_rewrite skills are lacking, especially to the extent that this would have required, and I ended giving up.

Of course, if we have any .htaccess gurus anywhere ... speak up now grin

It’s not so much laziness, although that certainly plays into it, as the fact that I don’t want to BREAK it after making all this progress. My boss is being very patient and the other day asked me, "So, like 2 weeks?" I’d really like to have it ready by the end of this week and it took forever to FTP all the pieces the first time. I’m not sure if the server has Gzip which would make install a lot simpler, but I don’t want to risk it.

Also, I don’t know how to change the paths. Can this be done in MODx manager in one basic section?

Yes, it’s in the Tools -> Configuration, once in the Interface and Features tab, and once in the File Manager tab. You can get the required paths from the phpinfo screen on the Reports -> System Info page by clicking the "view" link.

If you don’t have any hard coded paths in your snippets, then the only place to change it is in Tools > Configuration > Interface & Featuers > Resource Path.

As for moving the files, there are several ways. If your host has a control panel like cPanel, there’s a file manager. I assume other control panels offer similar functions. You can also do it with a shell, if you have shell access. On Windows, you can use WinSCP as FTP program and use ’Move to’ in the file menu. HTH.
