hi, only just started using Modx evo so not familiar enough with the lingo to use the search, im looking for a good guide (with examples) to adding more than one item of content to a page.

my chunk contains the remains of a free ccs template and can be seen here http://elitestories.co.uk/index.php?id=10 (ignore the dropdown menu, i haven't finished it reworking it yet)

i need to add content to four separate areas, each with its own title, two spotlights, 2 blocks.

I'm great at following examples, but not so good with the doc's, so if anyone can link me to the right resource i would be very grateful.

and if anyone is interested my site is an Elite Dangerous fan site + forum that will focus on the fiction that is being written alongside the game, new members (and helpers) always welcome smiley

If you just started using MODX, why Evolution and not with he newer Revolution version? (I do not use Evo, so I cannot help you, but just wondering why you're using Evo...)

I think, you should have a little understanding of what modx is and it's basics, to know what you are you looking for.
Start at the beginning here, http://rtfm.modx.com/display/Evo1/Home

If you have questions, there's always someone here. ;-)

For what TS wants, i should not persé go with Revolution, might be slightly overkill ;-)

i was looking for a cms to add to my forum and read a bit about it, referred to as just 'modx' so i googled it to find the site, Evo is first on the list in the results with revo a lot less prominently displayed.

if you read the brief descriptions of each on evo it says ' MODX Evolution comes with a sample website you can install' and on revo it says 'MODX Revolution starts as a completely blank slate'

no contest for a newbie like me, as i said in the post i work better with examples.

already stated, don't do well with docs, too much information is missing from the examples for me to follow, i know i have to add TV's to a template then make it a resource but the explanation of how to do it makes no sense to me without a point of reference.

              Edit:

Plus, pics are missing from the guide, this page is a prime example: http://rtfm.modx.com/display/Evo1/Template+Basics [ed. note: ripperroo last edited this post 13 years, 7 months ago.]

thanks for trying to help but i managed to find a free template with more than one content field and i have now got it sussed, i have the page running with 9 input fields on my original chunk and a fair understanding of how its done. laugh

it's not the way everyone learns but its the easiest for me.

Thanks, That's more my sort of thing, code in context. smiley

i think i got the hang of tv's & template's now, just got to go back and sort out all my css files then its on to the Wayfinder snippet and filling in that nav menu, Part 5 should make that a lot easier. smiley
