Running a newly installed instance of Modx 2.2.5-pl (traditional). Everything is working correctly including phpthumbof calls on the front end of the site. However, in manager, half of the thumbnails are broken (see attachment) including those displayed for image tvs though I can see from the phpthumb cache directory that the thumbnails are being created successfully. There are no errors showing in the ModX or Apache logs.
The broken thumbnails have their src like:
/connectors/system/phpthumb.php?src=portraits/01.jpg&w=80&h=60&f=png&q=90&HTTP_MODAUTH=modx51362f52c6ef47.45785300_1513b25f3b1fed5.61133463&wctx=mgr&source=2
I am totally out of ideas on how to tackle resolving this so would be grateful for any ideas or input.

I assume that it's something with the phpthumb output ...
On my local development server, everything works fine.
I installed MODX 2.2.6 and 2.2.5, but the problem still exists after re-installing.
