I have upgraded from Evo 0.9.6.2.2p2 to Evo 1.0.5 with no problems.
As far as I know there isn't much difference between 1.0.5 and 1.0.8 -- I wouldn't anticipate any problems with the update.
However, I did have one problem with one hosting service setup. They updated to PHP 5.3 but left magic-quotes turned on and didn't allow us to turn it off in the php.ini file. The work around is to change the /manager/index.php starting at line 89:
Change:
if (version_compare(phpversion(), "5.3") < 0) {
@set_magic_quotes_runtime(0);
// include_once the magic_quotes_gpc workaround
include_once "quotes_stripper.inc.php";
}
to:
if (version_compare(phpversion(), "5.4") < 0) {
@set_magic_quotes_runtime(0);
// include_once the magic_quotes_gpc workaround
include_once "quotes_stripper.inc.php";
}

However, it definitely needs to be done, we had to 'rescued' a site for another developer who didn't do the update. His client's site went down when the hosting service updated to PHP 5.3.
