I want to have different folders on my site where I can upload confidential documents (PDF’s) that people must log in first to view. I have tried using weblinks and Document groups and this sort of works - however, users can still type in the URL of the PDF directly to access the content. So this won’t work.

Is there any way to get ModX to protect a file (or a directory of files) until a proper password and username have been entered?

    Thanks!

look into the filedownload plugin (there is a snippet and there is a plugin), I think it will handle this issue.
