I cannot find any announcements or discussions about this subject, therefore I ask it here.

Since there is a cloud version of ModX, what are the future plans for the downloadable self-hostable ModX? Is it still under development in say 10 years?

I ask this because at the company where I work we're selecting a CMS for about 7 websites and continuity is very important. We also want to host the sites at our own server. I know my way around in ModX so I would like it to be an option, but the cloud hype make us doubt. (Btw, we're currently exploring Drupal and ProcessWire).

That's not a "Cloud version of MODx". The MODx Cloud is just shared hosting with a custom interface. Nothing more. Although it is configured very nicely to support MODx-based site development.
