I have created 'member only' sections ok and all is well. Now I have a question how to make it kind of backwards.
Is it possible to make with permissions that documents are visible to the users who are not logged in, but not to the ones who are logged in?

I think that could be done, but also consider using something like the Personalize snippet to show different chunks to logged-in and not-logged-in users. By doing that, you can customize the content for users based on their login status and have half as many resources. You can also have a different menu for each group by putting the menu in a chunk.
To do what you asked about, you'd put the Resources in a Resource group and connect that Resource Group to the (Anonymous) User Group with a Resource Group Access ACL entry. Every not-logged-in user is automatically a member of that group.
That should hide them from any logged-in users (but, of course, all users could see the resources if not logged in). In theory, that will work, but I've never tried it. It's possible that logged-in users are also members of that User Group, in which case, it won't work.

I wanted to do it with the resource groups because I have created a "helper menu" to my app with twitter bootstrap navigation bar (with multiple areas and levels) and depending on the logged in user's usergroup and the login status, the helper menu shows different articles. Some help articles in the menu should show to users that are not logged in and they should disappear when the user logs in because they are not needed after that and are just unneeded clutter at that point.
I list the articles to the menu under certain page tree with Wayfinder and now by selecting specific resource groups, I can set up what help articles should be in the menu for the user at each step of the way.
It's great to be back at modx community by the way! I have just briefly browsed for the last three years and now took Revolution to work as the main framework for one of my projects. It has been a breeze to work with it so far.
