I have a dual language revo 2.0.8 installation and want to share files from one folder in both languages/contexts. Read this doc for creating default_media_source settings for different contexts, but I don´t know what should be an
    ID of a media source
? Which system setting is overwritten by this rule? Could someone help me to so I could give it a try.

default_media_source is the system setting you're overriding. The ID of the media source is just that. Double clicking on the ID (when editing the default_media_source setting) should produce a drop-down displaying available media sources. If not, they're displayed in the media source table (Tools/Media Sources). Am I misunderstanding your question?

I cannot find any system setting "default_media_source" and therefore of course no according ID. Concerning the media source table: my manager drop-navigation under Tools contains only "Import resources" - "Import HTML" - "Property groups" (I translated by myself - I run a german modx backend). Is there another place where I can find entries of this media source table?

I think this is a version problem. I don't think any of this works prior to 2.2. I'd recommend upgrading to the most recent version if you can.

I´ve upgraded to revo 2.2.6 successfully. But now neither my former Fiendly URL configuration, nore the path to assets do work correctly.
I deactivated FURL temporarily, because it´s not the major problem.

My contexts are named "artists" and "artistsen"

Frontend outputs of image URLs in these contexts are
            "http://www.mydomain.de/artists/assets/fileadmin/press/image.jpg" respectively
            "http://www.mydomain.de/artistsen/assets/fileadmin/press/image.jpg"

            But they should be
            "http://www.mydomain.de/assets/fileadmin/press/image.jpg"

How can I strip the contextsnames out of these URLs?

I´ve set up basePath and baseUrl of mediasource filesystem in the backend and the manager works good.

Switching on FURL (see Post above) produces nothing at all in my navigation. It must be a Rewrite problem. Here´s my RewriteRule in the .htaccess file which worked perfect in my former install revo 2.0.6:

              RewriteEngine On
              RewriteBase /

              # The Friendly URLs part
              # Use this alternative rule for "pseudo subdirectory" context access
              # note that an adapted "switchtoContext" plugin is required to manage context switching
              RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
              RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
              RewriteRule ^(artists|artistsen)?(\/)?(.*) index.php?cultureKey=$1&c=$1&q=$3 [L,QSA]
