You might look at the Subscribe package, it will create everything you need for user registration (including a registration form and email to the users with a link to activate themselves). You need to have the current version of the Login package installed.
NewsPublisher will automatically create a form for users to submit content in the front end. You just specify which resource fields you want in the form.
